This is a VERY tough NIT field. I'm pulling for the CowPokes.

NIT can be a good building block for younger teams for the next year.
TCU turned last years NIT championship into a 6 seed.
Baylor turned the 2013 NIT championship into a 6 seed and a S16 the next year.
Wichita State turned the 2012 NIT championship into a 5 seed the next year.
Or they could just tank the next year like many have done.
Nebraska was 28-7 (13-5) and 5th in the Big 10 and a 5 seed in the NIT. That has got to be a blow to the ego.
Middle Tennessee won their conference for the 2nd year in a row, but couldn't win the tournament and gets a 3 seed in the NIT with an RPI of 33.
Also seems like quite a few major schools in here, could be some good games.

never know how teams take to playing in the nit, but nebraska looked solid to me for most of the year and would not surprise if they made nyc finals.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

here's hoping they can win it all. but this time, unlike last time, they won't get to say 'we're number 65!' it's now 'we're number 69!'?tmcats wrote:never know how teams take to playing in the nit, but nebraska looked solid to me for most of the year and would not surprise if they made nyc finals.
on a serious note, this thread begs the question: is it better to be one and done in the NCAA tournament or play 3/4 in the NIT?
in terms of next season prep.
If you have to be persuaded, reminded, pressured, lied to, incentivized, coerced, bullied, socially shamed, guilt-tripped, threatened, punished and criminalized...you can be absolutely certain that what is being promoted is not in your best interest
I think it is more like: "we're number 45"KITNooga wrote:here's hoping they can win it all. but this time, unlike last time, they won't get to say 'we're number 65!' it's now 'we're number 69!'tmcats wrote:never know how teams take to playing in the nit, but nebraska looked solid to me for most of the year and would not surprise if they made nyc finals.

Nubs were 22-10 this year, but 13-5 in a very poor b1g conference. The top 4 team in b1g are pretty good, but the other 10 apparently suck. But yea a #5 seed in the NIT - Whoa - that is just saying they don't think the b1g is worth a crap. And I'm ok with that.ajcksu82 wrote:NIT can be a good building block for younger teams for the next year.

Okie St should be in NCAA and OU should be in this one. Same could be said for Texas and Baylor flip flopping. It's not about the names at all.

The Bugeaters will extend their record of NEVER winning a NCAA Tournament game.....EVER.....NEVER....NOT ONE.
That would be a fair bet. Will NU win a NCAA Basketball Tournament Game before KU wins an away FB game?

Nebraska is the only P5 team to have never won a NCAA tournament game in 121 years. They have made the NCAA tournament 7 times and lost every time.WildcatEngineer wrote:The Bugeaters will extend their record of NEVER winning a NCAA Tournament game.....EVER.....NEVER....NOT ONE.

Other notables:
Northwestern had never even made the NCAA tournament in 114 years until last year, and they even won a game. (Their wiki lists round of 32 when no other teams list before S16).
4 Original DI schools to have never even made the tournament:
Army has never made the NCAA tournament in 109 years. That includes years when coached by Bob Knight and Mike Krzyzewski.
The Citadel, another military school, has never made the tournament in 118 years. In fact, they have only played in 1 post season tournament, the CIT in 2009.
St Francis (NY) has been playing basketball for 117 years and have never made the NCAA tournament. They have won their conference 6 times, but never the conference tournament including 2015 when they missed 2 FT with 2.4 seconds to tie the game and lost to Robert Morris.
William & Mary has 3 NIT, but no NCAA as well. They were close in 2015 after winning the conference, and in the conference tournament when they hit a 3-pt shot with .5 on the clock to win in double OT in the semifinals. But then they lost in the conference finals for the 4th time in 8 years.
