Oh my. I recently had my Medicare card laminated. I've worn it out! Now does that mean it will not be valid either?????
I hope not... We should tell the people at the FedEx store NOT to allow their employees to do that. It might save someone else from this trouble.

Don't know, PCB. The licensing agent wouldn't accept my Medicare card for federal ID purposes. So, you might be OK.

Maybe a plastic sleeve would be an option. Also how can you get a new SS card. Will a copy of a birth certificate work in place of the 1099 or SS card?

Here's how I think it works:

A birth certificate or valid passport work equally well.
Non-laminated SS card or 1099 work equally well.
Any kind of utility bill, credit card bill, etc. work equally well.
Got to show your current driver's license.

You'll need all four if you're a legal citizen. Now, there's a whole set of additional hoops and whistles for non-citizens.

I frankly didn't have any problem with the ID system, except for not accepting a laminated SS card. That seemed a stretch.

Did they specify exactly what was and wasn't acceptable on the renewal notification?
