This year has shown that recruiting and developing your own guards is important to have sustained success. Finding them in the portal is a challenge and landing one is hard because of the competition for guards. Last year we missed landing a bunch of guards from the portal. Ames and Castillo are good starts. Even Finister has potential.
I hope RJ Jones can blossom too.

KU has Nwankwo on their target list. Probably will go to KU, become a stud, and torture the hell out us.SCKSCat wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2024, 11:03 amHis twitter site has a good video. Handles.the ball well, drives well, 6-7, has range on his 3 point shot and makes about 33% of them.SCKSCat wrote: ↑February 22nd, 2024, 12:04 amhttps://cowleytigers.com/sports/mbkb/20 ... 0220imrp1z
Jeff Nwankwo.
Interesting. Top Juco player in KS
He says life changes, but God doesn't. Seems like a good cultural fit.
He originally went to Tulane on a football scholarship, but decided to go to basketball. He seems to be hitting his stride now in basketball. Recently named KS Juco player of the week when he averaged over 30 pts a game.

Finister already declared for the Portal correct? I suppose he might return if he doesn't get picked up.SCKSCat wrote: ↑March 20th, 2024, 9:06 amThis year has shown that recruiting and developing your own guards is important to have sustained success. I wonder what percentage of players do return if they don't get picked up. I think Finister will end up finding a school, but it may be more along the line of a Louisiana or Louisiana Tech type of school. He certainly does have potential - he showed flashes of it this past season.KSUbetcha wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2024, 2:19 amFinister already declared for the Portal correct? Last year Coach Tang told Massoud how much he would likely play and they agreed that Ish should enter the portal to see what he could find, but if things did not work out, Ish would be welcome back providing their was an open scholarship for him to do so. I think Finister is rated as a 3 star and should have some luck finding at least a bench role somewhere or go to a NCAA 2 school to get playing time and a degree. These kids that are not rated or have not yet proven themselves will have trouble finding teams to connect with. We seem to be recruiting kids that are ranked 3 star or better. Our staff needs to find some rare diamonds in the rough like Tomlin for our bench. I wonder now how many programs will now jump at an opportunity like Keyontae's if such an obstacle ever arises again to get a good player. My concerns about recruiting are getting just 1 good player. It looks like we have some good 2025 prospects.stlcatfan wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2024, 5:46 amI wonder what percentage of players do return if they don't get picked up. Just read Duke is in the portal looking for a veteran big rim protector.
They just keep Patrick Ngongba further down the bench.
Maybe Ngongba did not choose wisely. I doubt Duke would let him out of his NLofI.

Duke is chasing after Maliq Brown who played for Syracuse last year.
A 6-8 center/power forward.
Pat Ngongba how deep is the hole getting now?
I don't think he is going to get much playing time. Maybe someday playing for a team like K State will be more attractive than being a bench warmer on some blue blood bench.
I wonder what Duke promised Ngongba.

Maybe Ngongba isn't that good or at least not good enough to get mins. I really have no idea but see his name brought up a lot. But like you said this is nothing new. highly ranked kids piling up behind each othe on a team. I guess whatever trips their trigger.SCKSCat wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 6:36 pmDuke is chasing after Maliq Brown who played for Syracuse last year.
