ASU 85, KU 75
Helps make this a better week end.
KU loses second consecutive game, falls at home to Arizona State
LAWRENCE
Add Arizona State of the Pac-12 Conference to the short list of nonconference opponents to defeat Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse in the Bill Self era.
The No. 16-ranked Sun Devils on Sunday stopped the No. 2-ranked Jayhawks 95-85, joining Oral Roberts, Nevada, Richmond and San Diego State as only teams outside the Big 12 to defeat KU at home the last 15 seasons. Texas A&M was in the Big 12 at the time the Aggies downed the Jayhawks, who have an overall record of 224-11 at home under Self.
Tra Holder scored 29 points, Shannon Evans 22, Remy Martin 21, and Romello White 13 for undefeated Arizona State (9-0), which was the first nonconference team to win in Allen since San Diego State on Jan. 5, 2014.

Have to admit that ASU team is fun to watch. Quick guards, bombing 3's and a good enough inside presence to get putbacks and rebounds.

Honestly, we played them better on a neutral site than KU played them at home. Wish we could get KU before their reinforcements become part of the team. They are very beatable right now.

Such a shame that KU lost. ;) Seeing all those fans leave a little early was just plain sad. Hopefully that's practice for the regular season, but they'll probably rebound and go undefeated in conference. The only problem is that when KU lays an egg or loses to a quality team, KSU is sometimes right behind them so I can't delight too much in the Jayhawk losses.
ASU is well coached and they appear to have some gym rats on that team. Their player Justice seems to make a lot of big shots and he doesn't really remind me of a guy who would do that.

And they did it without Kodi Justice drilling ten 25-foot contested three's. Impressive.

KU could not guard their perimeter players on drives to the rim.]\RubberBandCat wrote:And they did it without Kodi Justice drilling ten 25-foot contested three's. Impressive.
Phog is fun to read right now. One comment on there:
[We gave up 58 in one half today. That hasn't happened since 1989 when Tubbs OU team did it.
Also, their 3 guards (all 5'11" or smaller) schooled ours. They shot lights-out and scored 72 points. Let that sink in.]
My comment: The 72 would not include any contribution Justice made.

I saw Arizona State play K-State and Xavier in person. If they're not one of the best teams in the country, then the top 5 must be unbelievably good.
We took them to the wire, out in their neck of the woods, and they shot 30 more free throws. One shot goes down and we beat one of the best teams in the nation. It wasn't in the cards, though, and I know why.

Makes our close loss harder to take - that was huge RPI opportunity - although still have to do well in league anyway - the loss to ASU or the loss to Tulsa doesn’t change the narrative much

remember asu's 44-9 free throw advantage v. k-state.
