Yes. As others have stated, if you have a team of seniors and do well in the NIT, it probably has no significance other than the seniors did get to experience some success in a post season tournament. If you have a young team, however, I believe a NIT run would be invaluable.
One of the things, which strikes me most about TCU winning the NIT, is that it shows the Big XII was not weak by any measure.

Going to the NIT is better than sitting at home, regardless of whether you have a senior-laden team, or a young team. Granted the NIT used to have a much larger profile before the NCAA Tournament doubled it's field, but playing an extra 1-5 games is not a bad, or trivial thing. Also, teams have a chance to make some extra money for their schools by hosting a first round game.
