The crowded podcast room

Post by spot2180 » April 13th, 2024, 7:40 am

I was typing this up in another thread and though it would be better in its own thread.

Not sure if the board listens to the podcasters that have recently made a name for themselves, but I usually listen to them on my drive to work.
During the realignment business, I was a regular listener of Kurtz and Fitz and the Monty Show.

After all of that mess finished up for the time being, I have tired of their rhetoric. The other day, Fitz started out super happy that Tang was coming back, and then pivoted to Tang needing to apologize to Cat fans. Why? It would be nice, but holding a grudge for listing to another job offer? Tang doesn't need to. Sorry.

Kurtz is always finds a way to describe his Twitter/X battles with fans of other teams, but high school ended for him a long time ago.

Monty is all Utah all the time when it comes to the Big12. I am not interested in his breaking news. The last time I listened to his show, he was at the point that it seems like he's also one of the guys that think the Pac12 is superior to the Big12 and is actually saving the Big12. Don't get me wrong. I am glad Utah is with us, but to think they are going to walk through the conference just means Monty hasn't been paying attention.

I listen to Locked-on Big 12 more than the others lately. And 365 out of Waco is pretty decent too...except for the 'kid'--he talks a lot but never seems to say much. Anyway, Drake Toll, who I didn't like initially--he just seemed too cocky-- has settled in to it and has some pretty good discussion. He is a Baylor guy but doesn't live and die Baylor. He's more of a total conference guy that mentions KState a lot. He doesn't spend too much time in the weeds running down a Big12 program and gives OU and Texas the business often.

Just my thoughts. Are there any podcasts that are really good?

i catch on3/k-state online's mason voth (below) and derek young's pod. young is really good at recruiting. he's joined by drew galloway. voth is a 25-year old who happens to be smart as a whip with a big personality. he occasionally does stadium food reviews that make me laugh. all three are fair and don't make noise for the sake of chaos. cannot stand kurtz or fitz and have explained that ad nauseam.

3MAW is decent
Mason Voth has a good podcast
I have been able to use them for free.
If I get a little constipated, I listen to Fitz. Seem to help loosen things up, not sure what the reason.
The unofficial Twitter X basketball site is good for scoops. Other Twxister are Joe Tipton, John Rothstein, Travis Branham, Adam Zagoria, Jeff Goodman

Not living anywhere near Kansas, its hard to get good insight in between game days and I drive a ton for work. I've tried most of the main KSU podcasts discussed here and I find most of them unprofessional or just second rate - hard to listen to. I've not listened to several of the lesser known podcasts listed in this thread. I'll give them a shot. I just want legit inside info or just honest program info, no BS. Last time I listened to Fitz's program I absolutely couldn't stand the 1980's porn music playing in the background on loop, and shut the show off. Made my head hurt, and that's not even addressing what he and his jabronies were trying to talk about.

Have never cared for Ftiz, and I don't listen to podcasts. I haven't listened to any sports talk since turning off Kietzman's arrogant ass back in 2014ish... Wouldn't know Kurtz if I saw him, nor do I know anything about him.

I'm dating myself and my interest in sports. I've never listened to a single podcast in my life -- on sports or any subject. At 81, I've always got other things to do that are more useful or entertaining than listening to podcasts.

Kinda how I feel. I just don't care to listen to opinions, and with the direction of college sports, I really don't give a shite about recruiting info either. Sure, I love it when we sign a bigtime recruit, but certainly don't care to listen to speculation. Seems absurd to put so much effort into wishy washy 18 year olds looking for paydays, but obviously, there is a market for it. Just ain't me!

I am not a big fan of jock talk in general, but it is okay once in a while, if there is breaking news or interesting developments. Wouldn't mind giving Voth a listen based upon the comments here. I like recruiting and Young seems like a pretty good guy. I am okay with Manbeck also.

I am going to disagree with some on here. My favorite is the 3MAW cast with Kurtz,Manbeck, and Young. Kurtz grew up a K-Stater from a K-State family so don't let some of those that disagree with him sway you from listening. He is K-State through and through and doesn't report what he doesn't know, other than we he says he is not being journalistic but it is just an opinion. I really enjoy Mason Voth, as well. I listen to Fitz and his crew and also enjoy them. As much as some want to label him a pot-stirrer as well, that is just because he doesn't fit their narrative. He has been around K-State sports for a long time, has lots of connections, and cares about the product. You don't have to always agree with him, but I believe that to all be true. I like the Sic'em 360 guys but they are mostly Baylor. Same for Drew if locked on Baylor. I occasionally listen to Pete Mundo. I listened to Monty during the realignment saga and enjoyed it, but he does have a Utah slant. I like the Big B show, which is K-Stater Brian Henley. He has a K-State perspective but looks mostly at Big 12. Those are my thoughts, do with it what you want.
