Surely they are not looking at any NCAA violations, it's such a clean program.

Well, KU and UNC have already shown in recent years that basketball bluebloods can blatantly break the rules, but receive little or no punishment. And yeah, Kentucky has its own reputation as a dirty program, historically.

My guess is that coaches see working at Kentucky as an extremely high-pressure job, with lofty expectations from an entitled fanbase. Now that all schools are more leveled out (due to NIL and the transfer portal), schools like Kentucky are losing the advantages they once had. Sure, they can buy players like they used to, but now so can everyone else.

I think you hit the nail on the head scf. Why put yourself through that crap now that everyone else can buy players. And how much more money can they offer some of these big name coaches they're courting. I could understand an up and coming coach at a smaller school.

REPORT: BYU coach Mark Pope has emerged as a candidate for the Kentucky head coaching job, per @JonRothstein.

And others are reporting this is a done deal. They had to go down the list pretty good. Pope is an alum but he’s not the guy they wanted. Curious how fans will react.

Pope is not the sexy hire, and Kentucky fans are letting everyone know about it. He is a damn good coach though, and he's probably exactly the guy to help them all think everyone should still kiss their "elite" blue blood asses. In year 2, the caca show that is Kentucky right now will likely be forgotten.

It is no surprise that "mighty" SEC, and the Big10 for that matter, knows that elite basketball doesn't exist in their conference, and that is why they are all about poaching Big 12 basketball coaches.

Other coaches should lead them on for 2 more months to delay the eventual hire's start of recruiting. That would be hilarious.

Looks like Pope's press conference completely won over the Kentucky fan base at a completely full Rupp arena.

I'm glad to hear that. There was initially a lot of criticism with the hire. But then again, it's Kentucky basketball fans so no surprise there.

I imagine that they sensed he wanted to be the head coach because he does love Kentucky basketball and the University, and is not there for a big paycheck or to build his brand.
