I’m curious how his style of coaching and play will work with the type of athletes Kentucky will contend for and potentially sign?xtrawildcat wrote: ↑April 14th, 2024, 7:05 pmLooks like Pope's press conference completely won over the Kentucky fan base at a completely full Rupp arena.

if pope could win at byu with all the restrictions at that school, then he surely can put together a program in lexington. his up-tempo offense will fit well in that league. he knows uk having played there. i just don't understand the angst with his hire; it does seem to be subsiding.

Probably just the overall arrogance and over-hyped self worth of the fanbase at Kentucky, just like at KU, maybe even worse. The fact that they threatened a fan mutiny like Tennessee did with Schiano if they hired Scott Drew was just ridiculous. Scott Drew is a freaking national champion coach!! Like, good grief, mutiny because you don't want a guy like Scott Drew?? Now, maybe it was his religious background, but those fans think John Wooden's mentor is the only one worthy of coaching their beloved program. Ridiculous

The bigger concern for Pope is he’s losing the high school players that were committed to Kentucky. Of the 6, 4 have decommitted including two 5 star and two 4 star.

Tang revealed some advice that he gave to Scott Drew throughout Kentucky’s search in a recent interview with ESPN Central Texas’ Matt Mosley, saying, “Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated. Don’t mess with happy.”
Drew eventually decided not to mess with happy and announced his decision to remain in Waco.

Great advice from Tang. The 'challenge' is always going to be attractive good coaches, but not so much when at least half of the fan base is against you before you even take the job. That makes it a negative situation right off the bat.SCKSCat wrote: ↑April 16th, 2024, 2:01 amTang revealed some advice that he gave to Scott Drew throughout Kentucky’s search in a recent interview with ESPN Central Texas’ Matt Mosley, saying, “Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated. People in Kentucky aren't happy with Pope, either, but knows the land scape and the fan base at Kentucky, Give him a year or two and Kentucky won't be the has-been they've become....maybe. But blue bloods fall and stay down sometimes. Indiana in basketball. Nebraska in football. Both of those fanbases have had it thrown in their faces about how fragile being a blue blood can be, and I don't feel sorry for them at all.
