Who’s the next coach

It’s obvious (even to Gene) that there is no way to bring Weber back and have a whiff of interest. Third straight crappy season. For those of you who want to chime in, gimme your next coach for K-State hoops

Pick 'Em

I’ve seen most others suggestions and like some, not so hot on others. But I haven’t seen this guy mentioned and was curious what thoughts might be.

Leon Rice at Boise St.

He’s in his 12th season at Boise, 58 years old. He’s won at least 20 games in 8 of the previous 11 seasons and one of those he won 19 games. He’s only had two losing seasons. And this year they’re currently 7-0 in the Mountain West, which is a competitive conference and 17-4 overall. He’s done maybe as much a coach could do at Boise.

He’s a former assistant of Mark few, where he was on his staff for 12 years. I’m actually surprised he hasn’t already had some P5/P6 programs come calling.

This is an interesting guy, going to have to do some digging on him.

The problem with Leon is he’s made the tournament 3x (gonna assume he gets its this time) in 12 years. But it would be a smaller jump from MWC vs a smaller conference. Matt McMahon looks like a possibility. Discovered Ja Morant I think and is 19-2 after a quick rebuild. Beat Belmont bad and I was pulling for their guy earlier. The big question though is Murray State has had success before and the only guy to succeed long-term at his next stop from there was Mike Cronin. Prohm obviously went from high to way way low.

His alma mater is Washington St. What the heck have they been waiting on.

Someone who Gene knows and also won an NAIA championship ten years ago.

The most Gene Taylor hire would be his unemployed pal Tim Miles

Seems like they’ve tried:

Might have to do with the facilities there from what I was trying to dig up. Also it sounds like he got his foot into coaching at Oregon (and got a masters there) so maybe he feels they are his primary alma mater.
