Drake HC Dan Devries would be someone who would be near the top on my list as a potential candidate.
Darian DeVries

Only been an HC for 3 years, all at Drake.

24-10 12-4 1st MVC - post season lost first round CIT
20-14 8-10 8th MVC - no post season
14-0 5-0 ?????

To little success - not quite enough on resume for me yet.
I hear ya, but I'm open to hear about better candidates who we could likely land. Drake is a tough, tough place to win and he's doing it with consistency. Also, he coached under Altman and McDermott for several years, so he's had some good mentors. I don't think there are a plethora of candidates who I'd put above him. There are others to consider, sure, but who is a candidate that would be the slam dunk hire or definitely better than Devries. I'm all ears. Not saying there isn't somebody, I'm just thinking of many who have a better track record. P5 coaches with success most likely aren't going to leave for a parallel move. P5 assistants aren't matching his 3 years of 20 win seasons, so we are now at coaches at mid major levels. Im sure there are other good candidates, but I'm not sure who they are. Devries would absolutely be on my short list.

*Side note. Devries has thrived when facing adversity of losing good players to injuries, etc... His teams improve throughout the year. This is a quality that puts him on my list. That, and anyone who can do what he's done at Drake, has some ability. Drake is historically bad. They haven't had 3 straight winning seasons in over 30 years. Also, have only won 20 games one time since 1970 (in 2007) before his arrival. He did it his first 2 years and is well on his way for 3 straight. He's going to get calls and being from Iowa and coaching at Creighton, he seems like a good fit to me.

This is a watershed moment for our program. If this humiliation doesn’t light a fire and bring a noticeable change in effort and performance from here on out, then it’s time to clean house. If this is a group of competitors with the pride necessary to restore the program, then they won’t take this. It happened Wes’ senior year. We were playing badly and got embarrassed at OU. I thought Weber might get fired before he got home. That team rallied, strung together some wins, and started our run of 3 tournament bids. This team isn’t making any tournament, but they can show over the next 6 weeks that they intend to soon.

If we were to look at mid majors:

Ritchie McKay - Liberty (former assistant to Tony Bennett)

Pat Kelsey - Winthrop

Russell Turner - UC Irvine

Rick Stansbury - Western Kentucky

Andy Kennedy - UAB

Craig Smith - Utah St

Brian Dutcher - San Diego St

Casey Alexander - Belmont

Got outrebounded 40-23. With 4 guys on the roster over 6-10. Pack and Miguel our two guards had 5 boards a piece of our 23. 🤦‍♂️
That’s not a valid stat. There weren’t many rebounds to be had. The only available rebounds were the occasional long ones.
That’s not a valid stat when you give up 13 offensive rebounds? 😂 Did you happen to watch a minute of that game? When the other team shoots 71% from the 3 point line and 60% from the field and you find a way to still give up 13 offensive rebounds...... I hate to break the news but that's horrible.

Think he would be the top choice off the list posted, unless you could convince Greg McDermott to give the Big 12 another try. Or, and I know this won’t be popular by many, can get Kelvin Sampson. Guy can coach.

Tommy Lloyd is the top assistant at Gonzaga and their international recruiter(KSU’s next coach needs to recruit internationally). Lloyd has it in writing to be Gonzaga’s next HC. He is 46 and Few is only 58. Does he want to wait that long?

Surely KSU can pay more than Gonzaga.

Lloyd would be 2nd on my list after Smith

There's no way this roster stays intact even if Weber is given another year. This legendary recruiting class is just an average Big 12 class btw.
