I hear ya, but I'm open to hear about better candidates who we could likely land. Drake is a tough, tough place to win and he's doing it with consistency. Also, he coached under Altman and McDermott for several years, so he's had some good mentors. I don't think there are a plethora of candidates who I'd put above him. There are others to consider, sure, but who is a candidate that would be the slam dunk hire or definitely better than Devries. I'm all ears. Not saying there isn't somebody, I'm just thinking of many who have a better track record. P5 coaches with success most likely aren't going to leave for a parallel move. P5 assistants aren't matching his 3 years of 20 win seasons, so we are now at coaches at mid major levels. Im sure there are other good candidates, but I'm not sure who they are. Devries would absolutely be on my short list.
*Side note. Devries has thrived when facing adversity of losing good players to injuries, etc... His teams improve throughout the year. This is a quality that puts him on my list. That, and anyone who can do what he's done at Drake, has some ability. Drake is historically bad. They haven't had 3 straight winning seasons in over 30 years. Also, have only won 20 games one time since 1970 (in 2007) before his arrival. He did it his first 2 years and is well on his way for 3 straight. He's going to get calls and being from Iowa and coaching at Creighton, he seems like a good fit to me.
