Well there goes an old joke. Don't let Wichita State have a football team ...or KU will want one too.
It was terrible when they lost their team - but for some time after that it was a good KU joke.

Yeah it was sad and unfortunate they dropped it and also that they didn’t revive it. Would have really liked to seen them come back and play FCS. Lots of state jucos that could help fill a roster and help extend some players careers.

WSU could easily find the financial support for FCS. And they would be competitive at that level. Would like to see them raze that crappy stadium and when rebuilding it, set it up for football. Plenty of $$ and support for athletics in that city that they could pull that off. Hope someone with power and $$ available kick starts that campaign. This might be just what was needed to do it.
In a perfect world, everyone would choose hard work, morals and ethics over obscene money and fame. And everyone outside of Lowrents would be required to be a red blooded, card carrying Payhawk hater.

I suspect any support WSU would get to revive a football program would come right out of the $30+ million a year in donations it takes to operate KSU football. I wouldn’t wish for WSU to have football if you also are in the camp that KSU should spend $100 million a year on the sport.

Problem is WSU wants to be more then FCS in football. When talks a few years ago in 2018 started ramping up about WSU bringing back football, they said they wanted to be in FBS, and even had someone from the Missouri Valley saying they had no interest in taking WSU for a few years as a FCS school if they were just going to leave. And now that they left the MVC in basketball, I'm sure there are even more hard feelings so there goes the most logical FCS conference.
Maybe the Pionneer league, but they would need a FCS conference that is willing to take a team short term, if WSU goals of FBS were true, which doesn't make a lot of sense to change up schedules and everything for a few years, or they would have to go independent in FCS which has it's own hurdles. There are currently only 3 independent FCS teams. 2 of which came from the DII ranks, which seems like a logical way to build a program over the long term, but I don't know if WSU can do DII with their other sports being at a different level.
