the first "way too early" ranking i've seen ...

of course you know who they picked #1, but would you have guessed #12?

2. KANSAS STATE (10-4 IN 2022)

Losing Deuce Vaughn and Felix Anudike-Uzomah — arguably the Wildcats’ best player on offense and defense, respectively — certainly hurts. But there are worse bets to take than a Kansas State team with a returning starter at quarterback in Will Howard, playing behind the bulk of his offensive line returning. Explosive Florida State running back transfer Treshaun Ward is among the Big 12’s most exciting transfer additions, and he’ll join DJ Giddens in making sure the Wildcats can still run the ball. Daniel Green has been among the Big 12’s best linebackers when healthy, and he’ll try to shore up a defense that ranks 94th in returning production, but was sprinkling through some of the younger players over the course of the season.

I think the author puts too much emphasis on returning production. For instance, TCU has been killing it in recruiting. Sure they lose a lot, but they have a lot more coming in.

I didn't realize Spencer Rattler returned to Oklahoma.

Doesn't it make more sense to evaluate based on who has produced at this level? There isn't an exact science in predicting records, but it certainly makes more sense to rank based on an emphasis of returning production than trying to predict which recruits will contribute right away.

100% this ^^^. if it was based on recruits, texas would win it every year.

I had no idea either. Now he would have to sit a year right. He played immediately at S Carolina. Not that I think he is that great. I just don't care for transfering every year playing for another team each time. I know there are circumstances grad Transfer etc, but don't think he'd be at that point yet in his college education.

And regarding the poll no idea. Makes sense I guess. I'd just as soon the Cats be rated lower in conference and not have an even larger target on their back.

I'm the opposite. It's time we get past this whole "underdog" mentality. Our fanbase always gripes when we don't get respect, but when we get it, we'd rather be the underdog. I don't get it. It's a perplexing thing. I want our program to be respected because we are whippin' butt. That helps with recruiting. We are the defending champions!!! Act like it.

I've seen how the success works at times with rankings. Come out and lay a turd the next game. I will say they got around a lot of it that this year.
To each his own.

No offense TM but never could stand the peanuts.
