I don't know if SI will be done for good, but if you go woke and can't read the room, you get what you get.

A person can be a socialist in a capitalist society, but a person is not allowed to be a capitalist in a socialist society.

They supposedly fired all their writers & editorial staff, and won't be publishing another SI magazine. I'd say you can stick a fork in them (they're done). It's possible they eventually morph into some online rag at some point.

Through my "Boomer Generation" Time-Life-Sports Illustrated provided the photos that recorded memories, events, personalities of our lives.
In 2024 everyone has a camera on their phone and yes we have a vast number of recorded photos. But the quality of the photo is not equal to what we saw in those legendary magazines.
An era has passed.

Now I will counter my post above with this AMAZING photo of Mahomes' helmet breaking in -4F temperature. The young Latina KC Star photographer deserves a Pulitzer.
My mom worked in a doctor office and would bring me the 2 weeks old SIs from the office. I remember reading about the Chiefs losing to GB in the first Super Bowl. SI was big time reading for an 11 year old. I’ve read SI most of my life but since the internet the magazine is no longer relevant.
They converted my weekly subscription to monthly which pushed my end date out years so I still get the monthly issue but I rarely read any articles. There’s just nothing interesting or informative any more.
BTW - I still have the issue with CK on the cover.

We are similar in age, Nat. Do you remember how exciting those first few Super Bowls were? The number of HOF players on the field was absurd. My favorite was Willie Lanier.NatCat2 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2024, 11:04 amMy mom worked in a doctor office and would bring me the 2 weeks old SIs from the office. Similar story - my mother-in-law would buy me an annual subscription to SI for my birthday. I would see those SI commercials where they would give away hats or windbreakers or some gift with a subscription. I called SI one year and said I was a long term subscriber. I was informed tough luck, the goodies were only for new subscribers. Old time loyal customers got nothing. Since then I have seen that marketing strategy used by many different companies.NatCat2 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2024, 11:04 amMy mom worked in a doctor office and would bring me the 2 weeks old SIs from the office. Mine too !! #63 crushing people. The team that won SB 4 over the Vikings had 6 HOFs just on defense, 2 at each level. Unbelievable talent. That defense really became a force that year when Lenny Dawson went down and they HAD to win with defense. Dawson made it back toward the end of the season and they started their playoff run.
They had a goal line stand with first and goal from the 1 against Joe Namath and the Jets and held them to a FG to tie the game at 6-6. The Chief put together a drive to win 13-6. The next playoff game was against the raiders and the defense forced 7 turnovers to win 17-7. Then the defense absolutely destroyed Minnesota for the SB win.
That was the last game ever played by the AFL as they merged the next year with the NFL.
Back in those days you were either an AFL or NFL guy and the rivalry between the leagues was real. Good times for a young Chiefs fan back then.

Your quote is so true and reasonable , how then can business not recognize it.DeereCatFan wrote: ↑January 20th, 2024, 6:08 amHonestly it had been so long since I'd thought about, let alone paged through a Sport Illustrated I really kind of forget about it. I guess never found much in there to read on the Cats. I do still have a copy of Futility U and also a copy of the Sports Illustrated with Rolando sinking his jumper against Oregon St - "The Mighty have Fallen" - I think.
Only time I'd thought about SI in the past several years was when swimsuit model issue would come out. I'd look through it and it was pleasant. Now, not so much and wouldn't even consider it. This is my opinion. To each their own if folks want to dabble in that, but it's just a fact what they have tried will dissuade a large portion of the subscribers. It's best just to stick to what you do or brew or sell and stay out of the polarizing topics.
