Wentworth was outstanding and Slack was solid to wrap up. Only allowed six hits combined with 13 strikeouts. Pelletier with two jacks and a double to lead the attack.

Really clean game by the Cats. JJ Slack is becoming a very reliable bullpen arm.

Go for the sweep tomorrow. Game time is 3pm and it’s on ESPNU.

Good to see them bounce back, especially against Big 12 competition.

Not so clean today as Cats lose finale 6-4. Had some chances but couldn’t get the big hit and gave away some runs with walks. But still win the series. However a sweep would have put them in a tie with OSU and two games over .500, instead they are at .500 in the crammed up middle of the conference. Need to keep winning series.

This coming week has a midweek game with Omaha they can’t lose and let ding their nice RPI. And then to Fort Worth next weekend to face the Frogs.

Jackson Wentworth is the Big12 pitcher of the week.

Well Cats win 6-4 but certainly not pretty and flirted with danger. Fell behind, again, 0-2 in the first as Wintroub got the start and allowed a solo and another run, but the Cats also had two errors, so only one was earned. Cats came right back with 2 in the bottom. Fell behind again after allowing another run in the second, but Cats put up 4 in the 3rd to take it back again 6-3. Cats allowed one in the 6th to make it 6-4, but neither team scored after that. Dean got into trouble in the 8th as Omaha had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. But a strike out, a ground ball out to the pitcher and a groundout to Day ended the threat.

Cats left 13 runners on, but it was mostly from walks, as both teams had trouble throwing strikes. And base running errors took runners out of scoring position twice.

And our big hitters are in a funk they need to get out of quick. Day, Culpepper and Ingram all got the horse collar and some not too impressive AB’s. Jones and Lobliner the only Cats with 2 hits.

Pitching was an adventure. Wintroub, Slack, Dean and Neighbors all pitched tonight.

Now off to Fort Worth to face the Frogs. They have struggled since conference play started but have played better since the first 3 series. Can’t get swept, but winning a series on the road would be huge. It will be shocker vs shocker Friday night as Ingram will face his old teammate Tole who is very good.

Brutal start by Ruhl and no show from the offense and get shutout 12-0. Ruhl must not be 100%. Doesn’t look like he has the velocity he used to. Doubleheader tomorrow so hopefully we get a good start from Wentworth in game 1.

We are just a brutal road team. Pitching, hitting, fielding, base running. We don’t do any of it well on the road. Unfortunately I think this team also falls short of post season, as now we’re falling into the lower half of the conference standings. Today losing 7-4 with outhitting TCU 12-7, but we also had 3 errors. We left 10 on base they left 6. Just terrible. We also lost out on both reviews that were bang bang and ended up either giving a run or taking a run. Again both to our disadvantage.

TCU is the worst hitting team in the conference and it’s not close and they blistered our below average pitching. Gave up a 6 run 4th inning off Wentworth as they batted around. We have no true #1. And our offense doesn’t travel. Our defense just doesn’t show up more often than not. And our baseball IQ and base running is jr high level. TCU who struggled terribly the first 3-4 weeks of conference play have been coming on as we head to conference tournament time and the Cats are just the opposite as they started off strong and are limping to the finish line.

I’m just about to give up on them. We’ll be fortunate to win the series next week against the hawks in Manhattan. And they’ve now moved ahead of us in the standings. Only the top 10 teams play in the conference tournament and we’re sitting at #8 now. Depending on how the other games end we could be in the #11 spot after this weekend. Just ridiculous.

A season that started with so much optimism and a team that was many analysts dark horse pick in the conference has just completely fallen apart.

I wlll say that Dean came in for Wentworth and pitched pretty well. He came in in the 4th and only allowed one run. Offensively English had a nice game going 3-5 and he hit a line drive to the outfield for one of his outs. Ingram went 2-4 with a homer. Parsons and Jones each had two hits. Unfortunately no one could get the big hit with the runners in scoring position. Day has been in a slump. He was over .400 for a long time and is now around .350, which would be a good average but means he’s been maybe around .200 for several weeks.

Hopefully They can win the finale to keep from being swept as if they do it will make it harder to make the conference tournament, nevermind the ncaa tournament.
